NeAIxt

Next-Generation Edge AI

Microsensys GmbH is a participant in the European collaborative project NeAIxt (new generation of Edge AI crossing technology fields).

The project is funded under the guideline for promoting microelectronics research by consortium partners within the framework of the CHIPS Joint Undertaking.

Project Overview

NeAIxt is a three-year European research and innovation project developing the next generation of secure, energy-efficient, and high-performance Edge AI, making a significant contribution to Europe’s digital and industrial future.

The project is coordinated by STMicroelectronics and co-funded by the CHIPS Joint Undertaking under Horizon Europe.

With 66 partners from 14 European countries — including large enterprises, SMEs, research and technology organizations, and academic institutions — NeAIxt brings together extensive expertise across the entire microelectronics and artificial intelligence value chain.

Project Objectives

The goal of NeAIxt is to systematically scale and advance key technologies for artificial intelligence at the network edge (Edge AI):

  • Scaling up: Broad industrial applicability and high market readiness
  • Enhancing: Improved accuracy, performance, and energy efficiency
  • Demonstration: Deployment of the developed technologies at large scale and in real industrial applications

In doing so, NeAIxt strengthens Europe’s technological sovereignty and enables reliable AI functionality directly on end devices (“on-device”).

Technological Focus Areas

NeAIxt addresses key hardware and software enablers for Edge AI systems:

  • Embedded Non-Volatile Memory (eNVM): Advancement of the eNVM roadmap with a focus on advanced technologies such as ePCM, OxRAM, and FeRAM, optimized for AI workloads
  • FD-SOI-based chip architectures: Foundation for highly energy-efficient, secure, and high-performance Edge AI solutions
  • Edge AI hardware and software: Development of specialized microcontroller architectures (MCUs) together with a coordinated software ecosystem of frameworks, tools, and libraries
  • Low power & security: Architectures for ultra-low energy consumption and secure AI processing directly at the network edge

Application Areas

The solutions developed in the project address a wide range of industrial and societal application fields:

  • Automotive industry
  • Industrial and automation technology
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Safety and security-critical applications

Contribution of Microsensys
